Advanced track — multi-utility campuses, dense corridors, and records at scale

The Advanced track is the third leg of the SureTrace curriculum — written for working private locators already past the Foundations framing. It extends the entry-level locate vocabulary into the four scenarios where the foundations vocabulary stops being sufficient: hospital and healthcare campuses, mixed-material corridors, abandoned-in-place assets, and multi-jurisdictional rights-of-way. Module 01 is live; the rest of the planned five-module outline ships piece by piece.

Who it serves

Four scenarios where the Foundations vocabulary stops being sufficient

The Advanced track is scoped against four scenario archetypes — the corridors a working private locator meets when the single-frequency pass that worked on residential work returns blank or wrong.

Hospital & healthcare campuses

Service laterals cross every department, every renovation adds another layer on top of the last, and the 811 ticket stops at the meter or service stub — leaving a private-side band the locator has to bound by sweep.

Mixed-material corridors

Metallic laterals run parallel to PVC storm, communications drops share the trench with low-voltage runs, and the single-frequency pass that worked on residential work returns blank on the conductive mid-band.

Abandoned-in-place assets

Decades of capital construction leave traces the GIS never recorded. The locator has to bound each negative by the method that closed it, because the absence of evidence is only evidence of absence when bounded.

Multi-jurisdictional rights-of-way

A single corridor crosses utility owners with different demarcation rules, different tracer-wire conventions, and different records tiers. The kick-off call has to surface each boundary before mobilisation.

How it differs

Three dimensions the Advanced track extends from Foundations

The Advanced track does not relearn the locate vocabulary — it extends the same foundations framework into the corridors where the foundations deliverable stops reading as defensible.

Depth — from single-frequency pass to method fusion

Foundations exposes the entry-level vocabulary (passive EM, single-frequency active induction, GPR basics) so the entry-level locator can run a defensible locate. The Advanced track extends it into method-fusion sweeps — dual-frequency EM, GPR + 9 kHz + 33 kHz EMI + acoustic reference probe — with timestamp alignment so the deliverable is one dataset, not three splatter plots.

Scenario focus — beyond the residential fence

Foundations lessons are written against residential and small-commercial scopes where the surface gives the answer and a single frequency reads the conductor. The Advanced track is written against the corridors that scenario stops covering: hospital podium decks, utility tunnels, dense urban rights-of-way, and the abandoned-in-place traces the 60–65% unmarked band leaves behind.

Deliverable — from page-one sketch to defensibility audit

Foundations covers the surface marker and the page-one sketch that anchors a finding to a sweep. The Advanced track extends it into ASCE 38 quality-level authorship applied to every line, every bounded negative, and the defensibility audit the closeout package attaches before it ships to the contractor or the municipality.

Five modules, three live now and two on the roadmap

The planned Advanced outline — five modules extending the Foundations lessons, with three already live and two on the roadmap. Each module deepens a specific Foundations lesson; the curriculum rollout opens the foundations lesson while the advanced module is in authoring.
